The combination of the Real World Energy Solutions’ knowledge, construction capability, behavioural change expertise and purchasing power enables us to empower organisations to secure an energy efficient future.

What is it?
Energy Efficiency 4 Business is a service designed to assist and empower organisations to reduce their energy spend and carbon footprint (see Carbon Standard). Our tailored approach is unique within its field:
We look at what you want to achieve through reducing your energy expenditure, be it cost savings, operational efficiencies, competitiveness, corporate social responsibility and/or achieving a particular standard or accreditation.
We work with you to create an Energy Management System that fits your needs – monitoring and targeting your energy usage and carbon emissions.
We help you implement the changes which may include physical changes to the building, the improvement of workflows and ingraining a culture of efficiency within the business.
Why we do it.
We believe the economic case for energy efficiency has been made because:
- In a world of spiralling energy costs twinned with a reliance on finite and insecure energy supplies businesses need to become energy efficient to protect their future.
- A more energy efficient approach to business can deliver substantial financial gains through reduced costs and more efficient and innovative operational methods.
- Increasingly, organisations are required by the supply chain to prove their environmental credentials and demonstrate that they are committed to reducing Carbon Emissions. The need for a robust Environment Policy is crucial for winning new business and will become more so as a result of the Climate Change Act 2008.
- The Climate Change Act will introduce tough new regulation and apply fiscal pressure (probably through the Business rate mechanism) to encourage business to reduce Carbon Emissions and meet the 80% reduction target by 2050.
Taking all these factors into account and understanding how environmental credentials will affect both the top and bottom lines for organisations, it is clear that ignoring energy consumption is no longer an option.
How we do it.
Our Energy Efficiency 4 Business proposition is designed to assist and empower you to reduce the energy spend and carbon footprint of your business. Everything we do is designed to give you the information you need and empower you to make sound business decisions.
The process comprises three elements:
- Establishing your current energy consumption and carbon footprint
- Setting achievable goals and targets to reduce energy consumption and Carbon Emissions
- Develop a strategy to enable you to achieve your goals.
Where are you now?
The first step is to measure current energy consumption and carbon emission levels by putting in place an energy management system that will track progress as you become more energy efficient.
A monitoring system such as the Optimal Energy management system will monitor the effectiveness of changes and highlight areas where further energy reductions can be achieved.
A good energy management system is the key to continually improving efficiencies with your business that is why they are also a key part of achieving the main ISO, Energy and Carbon Standards.
Where are you going?
This is a very important stage that is too often neglected – if you don’t know where you want to get to, the chances of getting there are minimal.
Organisations have different reasons for considering their energy usage and Carbon Footprint:
For some cost reduction is the primary driver, some the need to prove their environmental credentials to customers and stakeholders, for others it is about achieving CSR and compliance obligations.
We help you assess what’s important to you and what you need to focus on to achieve your goals and targets.
How are you going to get there?
Having agreed targets and goals typically the 3 main areas of focus are:
- Identifying the most effective ways of improving the energy efficiency of your buildings - from energy saving lighting and appliances, reducing fluctuations in demand from your heating and cooling systems to improving the thermodynamics of the building and assessing the potential of on site micro-generation of heat and power.
- Assessing the business to see where efficiencies can be achieved - small changes in the way people work and behave can create huge energy savings at little cost.
- ‘Listen to the voice of the customer - what does the customer really want?’ - does the business achieves maximal efficiency when responding to these needs?
Our Carbon Champions Programme is designed specifically to help you achieve all of the above.
